COVID-19 Policies and Protocols

Residential Life Protocols

1. I am a new student. When can I move in?

First-year students can move in on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Before arriving, students will be assigned a check-in time between 9:00am – 6:00pm, followed by a one-hour time slot during which they can move in. These times will be sent directly to students by the Housing Director. Anyone who misses his/her assigned time will be required to move in after 6:00pm by appointment only. A temperature screening is required for everyone entering the residence hall for move-in. Each student is permitted no more than two (2) helpers for move-in. The general safety protocols apply to anyone on the Urshan campus (masks at all times inside unless in one’s own dorm room, physical distancing of 6 feet, etc.). Students should check their Urshan email account for an email from the Housing Director with detailed move-in protocols.

This date and information also applies to “returning” students, who are students who have taken a semester or longer off from enrollment and are now enrolled again.

2. I am a continuing student. When can I move in?

Continuing students will move in on Thursday, August 13, 2020, following the same guidelines as above.

3. What is being done to prepare and maintain safe on-campus housing for the Fall 2020 semester?

Residence hall common areas will be sanitized by housing staff and volunteers. Students will be responsible for disinfecting their own rooms. Furniture in residence hall common areas have been removed to encourage social distancing. Hand sanitizing stations have been installed throughout the building.

4. Am I required to wear a face mask and follow social distancing in the residence hall during the school year?

Students are expected to continue following the general safety protocols in all areas of the residence hall (bathrooms, common areas, hallways, other students’ rooms), except a student’s own room.

5. Will I be allowed to have visitors during the school year?

No external guests (guests who are not students or employees of Urshan) are permitted in the residence hall after that student’s assigned move-in day. No overnight guests are permitted.

6. If I live in on-campus housing, am I allowed to stay overnight off-campus?

On-campus students may stay off-campus overnight after they check in with their RA to have their temperature verified as normal.

7. What will food service look like in the Fall 2020 semester?

Cafeteria tables will be distanced and seating at each table will be limited. Outdoor seating will be expanded. All cafeteria personnel serving food will be masked.
